영화 카사블랑카
요새는 장거리 비행기를 타면 개인별로 스크린이 있어서 좋아하는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 그래서 지난 번 목회자 컨퍼런스에 갈 때 비행기에서 영화를 보았습니다. 캐나다에 살아서, 한국 영화를 거의 보지 못하기 때문에 그런 경우에 유명한 한국 영화를 주로 봅니다.
그런데 보고 싶은 한국 영화가 없어서 다른 영화를 찾다가 제가 좋아하는 두 영화를 발견했습니다. 바로 카사블랑카와 로마의 휴일입니다. 옛날에는 로마의 휴일을 제일 좋아했는데, 요새는 카사블랑카를 더 좋아합니다. 그래서 카사블랑카를 먼저 보았습니다.
줄거리를 소개하면 다음과 같습니다. ‘릭’이라는 미국 사람이 모로코의 카사블랑카라는 도시에서 술집을 운영합니다. 2차 대전 당시 모로코는 프랑스 식민지였지만, 독일이 프랑스를 점령하고 나서는 실제적으로 독일이 지배하는 상태였습니다.
당시 통행증이 있으면 포르투갈의 리스본을 거쳐서 미국으로 갈 수 있었습니다. 마침 체코 출신 레지스탕스 지도자인 ‘라즐로’와 그의 아내 ‘일자가 카사블랑카에 옵니다. ‘릭’이 통행증을 가지고 있다는 소문을 들은 ‘라즐로’가 ‘릭’을 찾아옵니다.
두 사람이 방에서 얘기하고 있는데, 술집에서 독일 군인들이 피아노로 독일 군가를 부르면서 위세를 떨칩니다. 술집 밴드와 싱어도 있었지만 독일 군인들의 위세에 눌려서 조용히 보고만 있습니다.
방에서 ‘릭’과 얘기하던 ‘라슬로’가 독일 군가를 듣고 아래로 내려갑니다. 술집 밴드 앞에 서서 프랑스 국가를 연주하라고 부탁합니다. 밴드가 ‘릭’의 눈치를 보자 ‘릭’이 허락합니다. 이에 많은 사람들이 같이 프랑스 국가를 부릅니다. ‘릭’을 좋아했지만 ‘릭’에게 버림을 받아서 독일 군인과 사귀던 가수도 눈물을 흘리면서 같이 노래를 부릅니다.
저는 이 장면을 볼 때마다 감동을 받아 눈물을 흘립니다. 카사블랑카 영화를 꽤 여러 번 보았지만, 이 장면을 보면 항상 눈물을 흘립니다. 아마 제 성향이 레지스탕스인 ‘라슬로’를 닮은 모양입니다. 나름 불의에 맞서서 정의를 외치고 싶어 하는 것 같습니다.
교회에서 목사는 성도님들을 알고, 성도님들은 목사를 알면 좋습니다. 서로 말과 행동이 이해가 잘 되고 서로 협력을 할 수 있기 때문입니다. 제가 왜 이렇게 목회를 하는지 이해하는 데 도움이 될 것입니다. 그리고 협력을 하기 쉬워질 것입니다.
Movies Casablanca
Nowadays, if you take a long-haul flight, there is a screen for each individual, so you can watch what you like. Last time I went to a pastors' conference, I could watch movies on the plane. Since I live in Canada, I rarely watch Korean movies, so I mostly watch famous Korean movies on those occasions.
I couldn't find a Korean movie that I wanted to watch, so I was looking for other movies and found two movies that I liked. It's Casablanca and Roman Holiday. In the old days, I liked Roman holidays the most, but nowadays prefer Casablanca. So I watched Casablanca first.
The plot is as follows. An American named 'Rick' runs a bar in the Moroccan city of Casablanca. Morocco was a French colony during World War II, but after the German occupation of France, it was effectively under German control.
At that time, if you had a pass, you could go to the United States via Lisbon, Portugal. It just so happens that the Czech resistance leader Laszlo and his wife, Ilil, are in Casablanca. When Laszlo hears that Rick has a pass, he comes to visit him.
The two are talking in the private room, and in the bar, German soldiers are singing a German military song on the piano. There were also pub bands and singers, but they were overwhelmed by the power of the German soldiers, so they just watched quietly.
Laszló, who was talking to Rick in the room, hears the German military song and goes downstairs. Stand in front of a bar band he asks them to play the French national anthem. When the band waits for Rick’s permission, he agrees. Many people join in singing the French national anthem. The singer, who had a crush on Rick but was refused by Rick and was dating a German soldier, also sings along in tears.
Every time I see this scene, I am moved to tears. I've seen the Casablanca movie quite a few times, but this scene always brings tears to my eyes. Perhaps my disposition resembles that of the Resistance Lászlo. It seems that I want to stand up to injustice and live for justice.
In the church, the pastor should know the members, and the members should know the pastor. When they understand each other's words and deeds well they will be able to cooperate with each other. It will help you understand why I minister the way I do. And it will be easier to cooperate.
