안녕하세요 이번 올란도 비전교회에서 주최하신 2024New Generation Conference 청소년 평신도 사역자 자격으로 참석하게 된 차드목장의 권지윤 이라고 합니다.

3개월 전, 컨퍼런스를 위한 신청서를 작성할 시에 전 지금의 제가 이렇게 바쁘고 힘든 시간을 보내고 있을 줄 몰랐습니다. 여러가지 일이 겹쳐 높은 스트레스지수에 허덕이며 저는 이번 컨퍼런스에 참가했습니다.

제가 이번 컨퍼런스에 참가하게 된 계기는, 제 나이또래의 크리스찬, 그것도 영어권 청년 크리스찬을 만나보고 싶어서 였습니다. 청소년때 참석한 GYKM 컨퍼런스 후 처음 참석하는 자리에, 제가 장목사님을 도와 아이들을 잘 인솔해 다녀올 수 있을까, 또 제 영적상태가 이런곳에 참석하기에는 너무 매말라 있는 건 아닌지 많이 걱정이 되되었습니다.

그래도 전 이번 컨퍼런스를 참석하며 가정교회에서의 유스사역에 관해 배우기 원하는 마음으로 올랜도행 비행기를 탑승했습니다. 이번 컨퍼런스에 참석하는 중에도 힘들지 않았다면 거짓일 것 입니다. 공교롭게도 제 직속상사의 휴가와 이번 일정이 겹쳐 숙소에 돌아가 잔업을 해야하는것은 물론이고, 컨퍼런스 3일차에 체증과 감기몸살이 동시에 와서 하루 종일 숙소에서 자야하기도 했습니다. 하지만 그 와중에서도 감사했던건 가장 중요한 둘째날 소규모 강의를 잘 들을 수 있었다는 것 입니다.

제게 가장 감명깊었던 강의이자 토론시간은 Austin Evergreen Church의 Eric Hur 전도사님께서 이끄신 Youth & House church ministry?, 그러니까 청소년과 가정교회사역? 이라는 강의였습니다. 저까지 총 6명의 유스사역자들이 모여 자신의 교회에서는 가정교회리는 틀 안에서 유스사역이 어떻게 진행되고 있는지, 어떤 어려움들이있고 어떻게 어려움을 이겨나는지를 나누는 시간이었습니다. 특히 허전도사님께서는 자신의 교회에서 십여년간 7가지의 다른 체계로 청소년부를 이끄시며 느끼고 배우셨던것을 세세하게 나누어 주셔서 정말 감사했습니다. 전도사님께서는 당신이 처음 사역을 시작하셨을때 이렇게 나누고, 토론하고, 함께 고민할 수 있는 자리가 없어서 아쉬웠는데 이번 컨퍼런스를 통해 이런 좋은 시간을 나눌 수 있게되어 참 감사하다고 하셨습니다.

함께하신 전도사님들과 평신도 사역자님들의 간증아닌 간증을 듣다보니 한분 한분 다 너무 대단하고, 존경스럽고, 사랑이 넘치는 삶을 사시는 것이 느껴졌습니다. 모두가 자신이 맡은 어린 청소년들을 이끌고, 그들과 그들의 VIP들을 위해 기도하며, 영적 멘토가 되어 차세대 리더들을 양성 함으로써 주님의 충실한 일꾼으로 살아가는 분들이셨습니다.

사실 주님을 위해 좁은길로, 더 힘든길로 나아가는 것은 비단 그들 뿐만은 아니었습니다. 제 허리까지도 못미치는 조그만 어린이 목자들 부터, 아직 한창 사춘기일 청소년목자, 그리고 음식으로, 라이드로, 민박으로 섬겨주신 모든 장년성도님들까지, 하나님의 일꾼들이 함께모여 화합하고 은혜받는 장소에 저도 참여할 수 있어서 정말 감사했습니다. 손을 높이들고 혼신을 다해 찬양하고, 서로의 손을 잡고 기도하는 어린 목자들을 볼때 저는 하나님의 위대하심을 느낀 것 같았습니다.

3일동안 말씀을 전하신 DL목사님은 이렇게 말 하셨습니다 : “We're not in Jerusalem anymore”. 다니엘과 그의 세 친구가 예루살렘에서 포로로 잡혀가 바벨론으로 끌려간 모습을 우리의 현실에 빗대어 말하신것입니다. “We're not in Jerusalem anymore” - 우리는 더이상 주님을 경배하는을 당연하고다고, 옳다고 말하는 세상을 살아가는 것이 아니라고 지적하신 말씀입니다. “We're not in Jerusalem anymore” - 저희 모두, 특히 너무 엇나간 이 세상을 사는 어린이/청소년 목자들에게 경각심을 세워주시기 위해 하신 말씀입니다.

제 마음에 박힌 이 말씀를 따라 저도 바빌론의 것이 아닌, 그러니까 세상의 것이 아닌, 주님의 것을 좇아 살아가고 싶습니다. 주님이 제게 주신게 1달란트인지, 2달란트인지, 5달란트인지는 저도 모르지만, 주님이 원하시는 대로, 주님이 예비하신데로 제 달란트를 드리고 싶습니다. 아직도 저는 주님이 저를 위해 예비하신 길 이 무었인지 모르지만, 이번 컨퍼런스를 통해 저는 조금 더 주님의 나라를 기대하고, 주님의 역사하심을 옅볼 수 있던것 같습니다. 항상 기도하며 나아가는 제가 되리라고 결단하며 이 간증을 마치겠습니다. 감사합니다.

My name is Ell J. Kwon from Chad Mokjang, and I’ve attended the 2024 New Generation Conference hosted by the Orlando Vision Church as a youth teacher.

Three months ago, when I filled out the application for this conference, I didn't expect that I would be so busy and stressed this time of year. Juggling multiple life changes and issues, tired and stressed, is how I was, when I took the plane to Orlando.

The reason I chose to attend this conference was to meet other Christian young adults of my age, particularly English-speaking ones. It’d been a long time since I attended the GYKM conference in my teenage years, so not only was I concerned about whether I could help Pastor Jang lead the youth well during this cross-border trip, but also whether I was in a good spiritual shape for such an event.

Despite these concerns, I still boarded the flight to Orlando with a desire to learn more about youth ministry in house churches.

It would be a lie to say that I just cruised through this conference. Coincidentally, my boss’ vacation also happend to be  the week of the conference, so I had to keep working late when we got back to our host family after the conference schedule. Also, on the third day of the conference, I was hit with both indigestion and a cold, and had to spend the whole day resting at our host family’s home. However, I’m grateful I was still able to attend the most important part: the small-group breakout sessions on the second day.

The most memorable breakout session slash discussion for me was the one led by Pastor Eric Hur from Austin Evergreen Church, titled “Youth & House Church Ministry.” This session, which included a total of six youth ministers including myself, focused on how youth ministry is carried out within the framework of house churches, the challenges faced, and how to overcome them in the youth-specific context. Pastor Hur shared in detail his experiences and learnings from the seven different methods of leading youth house churches that they tried to implement over the past decade at his church. He mentioned that when he first started his ministry, there were no opportunities to share, discuss, or contemplate together on such subjects, so he was thankful that such an occasion was granted during this conference.

Hearing the stories of trial-and-error of each minister and lay workers, I felt that each person was extraordinary, admirable, and lived a life full of love. They were all devoted to leading the youth in their care, praying for them and their VIPs, and serving as spiritual mentors to nurture the next generation of shepherds, leaders and? faithful workers of the Lord.

Well, it wasn’t only these individuals who were taking the narrow and difficult path for the Lord. From the small children shepherds who barely cam up to my waist, to the teenage shepherds going through puberty, and all the adult members who served us with food, rides, and lodging, I felt grateful to be part of this gathering of God’s workers coming together in unity and grace. Seeing the young shepherds lifting their hands in worship and praying together, I truly felt a sense of God’s greatness.

Pastor DL, who spoke over the three days, said, “We’re not in Jerusalem anymore.” This was a reference to how Daniel, in the Bible, and his three friends were taken from conquered Jerusalem into Babylon, making a comparison to our own reality. “We’re not in Jerusalem anymore” - he was pointing out that we no longer live in a world where worshiping God is the norm and seen as the right thing. “We’re not in Jerusalem anymore” - it was a call to awaken all of us, especially the children and the youth, living in such a misaligned world.

Following this message that has been engraved into my heart, I also want to live pursuing, not the things of Babylon, but the things of the Lord. I don’t know if I have been given one talent, two talents, or five talents, but I want to offer whatever I have, to live according to God’s will, living in excitement for whatever He has in store for me.

Though I still don’t really understand the path the Lord has prepared for me, through this conference, I feel that I was able to get excited for God’s kingdom and see just a glimpse of His great work. I resolve to move forward in prayer and that’s how I’ll conclude this testimony. Thank you.
